Planning commission approves rezoning for Weatherford Point, paving way for grocery site

The Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 9 unanimously approved a zoning map amendment to rezone a 9.743‑acre tract at the northeast corner of CenterPoint Road and the Interstate 20 frontage road from Agriculture to C‑2 (Interstate Commercial). Staff called the proposal "Weatherford Point," describing seven commercial lots and a space intended for a large grocery store.
Anna Carrillo, the civil engineer on the project, told the commission the packet includes an overall site plan showing a Sprouts grocery and several retail and restaurant lots. "We have been working very closely with staff over the last several months...and we think that this is a great development for the city of Weatherford," Carrillo said.
Staff recommended approval of the zoning map amendment. Chair Brian McCown opened and closed the public hearing after no members of the public registered to speak on the item. The commission then moved to approve the rezoning "as presented," and the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: the commission noted cases considered by this body will also be considered by the City Council; applicants should expect the item to appear on a future council agenda per the city's posting rules.
