Legislature Agrees to Letter of Support for Hornell Civil War Monument Plaques

Legislators voted to provide a letter of support for a Hornell resident's effort to add plaques to the existing Civil War monument in Mount Hope Cemetery that would recognize Hornell‑area soldiers who died in service or were otherwise affected by the war.
"He is going pretty headstrong with getting a project to add for plaques onto the, Mount Hope Cemetery... He is going to, he's just asking for the county to memorialize and recognize and support his project to update the civil war statue," Griffin (speaker 8) said. Griffin emphasized the request was for a memorializing letter of support only and did not ask the county for money.
The motion to memorialize and provide a letter of support was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff said the proponent may pursue fundraising for the plaques and that county action was limited to a letter of support.
