County Accepts $15,000 America250 Grant; Plans Sept. 5 Music and History Fair

The legislature voted to accept a $15,000 award from the New York State 250th commemorative committee to support Steuben County's America250 activities.
"They sent an email to Jack who sent it to my office, to award us $15,000 to use for America250 celebration funding," Griffin (speaker 8) said in the presentation asking the legislature to accept the funds. Griffin said the funds appear to come from the New York State 250 fund and that they have no indication the money is federal. The acceptance was approved by voice vote.
Griffin described proposed programming for Sept. 5 at Poultney Square: a music-and-history fair with national ensemble Singers for Democracy debuting new compositions, booths from local historical societies and museums, and historical reenactors (possibly including the Lexington Minutemen). Griffin said the county will likely ask next month to establish a Steuben County America250 committee to help plan the event and that further spending details will be shared after the vote.
