Legislature OKs RFP to Design ADA Upgrades for County Office Building Bathrooms

The Steuben County Legislature voted to authorize a request for proposals for engineering/ENA services to renovate bathrooms in the county office building that are not currently ADA-compliant.
"They are original to the building, so ’84, ’85," a county staff member explained, urging the legislature to move forward so a single renovated design could be replicated on other floors. Staff noted capital project funds have been accumulating for about five years to cover the expected cost of the work. Chair (speaker 1) called for and received a voice vote approving the request to solicit design proposals.
County staff said the project will trigger application of newer accessibility code requirements once remodeling begins, and that an approved design for one floor could be copied to the others to reduce duplication of effort. The motion to authorize the RFP was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote; staff will return with procurement documents and cost estimates when available.
