Committee agrees to letter of support for Hornell Civil War monument plaques

A local advocate contacted the county seeking a memorializing letter of support to add plaques to the Mount Hope Cemetery Civil War monument in Hornell to honor area residents who were killed, died in service or were POWs. The presenter said the request is for recognition only — not county funding — and asked the committee to memorialize support.
"He's calling it back then, it used to be just known as Hornellesville... He is going pretty headstrong with getting a project to add...plaques onto the Mount Hope Cemetery," the presenter said. Members moved, seconded and the vote to provide a letter of support carried. The presenter cautioned that the exact list of names needs verification; when asked how many names might be involved the presenter said "there were close to 1000" but added, "Don't quote me on that" and committed to checking records.
