Committee backs county application for infrastructure funds to support 10-house West Street project in Hornell

Jack K. Wheeler, Steuben County Manager, asked the committee for consensus to apply for the State County Infrastructure Grant on behalf of the City of Hornell for a West Street housing development. The committee agreed to support the county making the application.
Michael Nisbet, Executive Director of the Hornell Industrial Development Agency, said the city acquired 7.5 acres on West Street in 2023, cleared the land and is in final design stages to build 10 single-family houses. Nisbet said a basic house price would be about $325,000. Wheeler noted the State program requires projects be shovel-ready within a year of application and that a new component allows counties to seek up to $500,000 for placemaking infrastructure if applicable.
