County accepts $15,000 state grant to fund America250 celebration in September

The PIP committee voted to accept a $15,000 award from the New York State 250th Commemorative Commission to support Steuben County's America250 programming. The presenter said the MOU indicates the funding is state-provided and outlined plans for a Sept. 5 music-and-history fair at Poultney Square featuring national troupe Singers for Democracy, local historical societies and living-history reenactors.
"They sent an email to Jack who sent it to my office, to award us $15,000 to use for America250 celebration funding," the presenter said, adding the planned event will include local museums, reenactors and music. The presenter said they were planning to ask next month to formalize a Steuben County America250 committee to help organize the event because "this is not an event that could easily be done just by one person alone." Committee members asked whether the money was state or federal; the presenter said the MOU showed it is state funding.
Members approved accepting the grant. Staff said specific program details and any committee structure will return to the agenda for approval.
