Commissioners approve Midway Road contract; shift bond dollars to cover higher bids

The Commissioners Court approved construction-phase actions for the Midway Road project (approximately 4.8 miles in Precinct 1) and authorized corresponding budget adjustments at the Oct. 27 meeting.
Chris Bosco of Friese and Nichols presented maps and bid results, reporting six bidders with Jay Mills the low contractor and a bid reported in the meeting as $6,000,003.52. For safety and alignment reasons the project includes intersection realignment at Ville Station and added safety elements that contributed to increased bid prices.
The court approved three related approvals by voice votes: reducing the W N Woody project by $150,000, reducing Hutchison Road phase 2 by $850,000, and increasing the Midway Road budget by $1,000,000 so the county can award the contract and proceed. The award to Jay Mills and the budget adjustments were carried on motions with second and recorded as unanimous (5–0).
Staff said construction management, inspection and testing amendments with Friese and Nichols will be processed to support the extended work and the county anticipates a construction timeline that keeps the road open to traffic while work proceeds.
