Consultants outline site survey and wetland-flagging plan for Newfields public safety site

John Hayden, chair of the Public Safety Building Committee, opened the July 22 meeting as consultants described the planned site survey and wetland-flagging approach for the proposed Newfields public safety site.
Christian Smith of Beals Associates, Brendan Quigley of Gove Environmental Services and Eric Salovitch of Northam Survey told the committee they will use both drone-based ortho mosaics and conventional ground-survey methods so wooded areas and boundary research can be done safely and accurately. Brendan Quigley confirmed wetland flags — not placed during the initial GPS investigation — will be installed within two weeks as part of the contract. The team requested GIS layers for water lines, as-built sewer plans, and any available sidewalk designs to ensure infrastructure is accurately mapped.
The consultants described drone flights as a way to produce orthomosaics and improve crew safety while conventional methods will handle detailed boundary work and wooded areas. Committee members and Hoby Harmon agreed Christian Smith and the team will coordinate title and legal support with attorney Chris Boldt to supplement the survey research. The group set survey timing and deliverable expectations to align with downstream design work and permitting.
