The Parker County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a proclamation declaring October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month and called attention to expanding local demand for victim services.
County Attorney John Forrest read the proclamation text to “raise awareness for victims and survivors,” calling domestic violence a cross‑cutting issue that includes emotional, financial and psychological harm as well as physical abuse. Lisa, the county victim assistance coordinator, described a rise in requests for protective orders and services: “I have 17 on my desk right now. They're coming in every single day,” she said, adding that many callers need guidance to determine appropriate remedies.
Court members and staff emphasized that rising filings reflect both increased incidence and greater awareness and help‑seeking. The proclamation encourages residents to learn about support options, including shelters, hotlines, counseling and legal aid, and affirms Parker County’s support for local organizations providing those services.
The motion to adopt the proclamation carried 5‑0. County staff said the county will continue outreach and support to connect victims with resources and will work with local partners on prevention and education efforts.
