State Elections Board requires paper check-in; Union County calls redundant

At the July 13 meeting Elizabeth Stevens briefed the Board on a newly passed rule from the State Elections Board (SEB) that requires election officials to write each voter’s name on a separate sheet of paper in addition to recording the check-in on a poll pad.
Stevens told the Board the county will follow the SEB rule but described it as redundant: “This redundant requirement is not seen as serving useful purpose,” she said. The Board did not take formal action on the rule at the meeting; staff will implement the change as required by state regulation and noted the change during the operational readiness discussion.
