Union County to use $1.64M DOT grant for asphalt resurfacing on multiple roads

The chair read the contract award and listed targeted segments: Holloway Road, Ball Lane, Molly Dam Road (3.26 miles), and Front Creek Road (1.69 miles).
The chair said the contract effective date is 05/29/2026 and described the project as part of the county's ongoing maintenance strategy. County staff later told residents the county maintains roughly 600 miles of county roads and that resurfacing resources are prioritized based on condition and available grant funding.
"The effective date of this contract is 05/29/2026," the chair stated when announcing the award. Staff cautioned that surface-treatment patching is used as an interim measure in places with 'alligator' cracking until full resurfacing can be scheduled under grant or budget cycles.
