D.C. Council convenes special meeting, chair and member thank staff

Chair Phil Mendelson opened a special legislative meeting of the Council of the District of Columbia on Aug. 1, 2025, noted it was an additional meeting with a single agenda item and led a moment of silence before calling the roll.
Mendelson thanked support services and Council TV staff for late-night work that allowed public testimony to continue until midnight during prior hearings, saying they "keep the lights on" and run hearings so the public can testify. Councilmember McDuffie also asked to speak and thanked multiple staff and offices by name for their work in advancing the bill to a first vote, naming staff members including Donnie Crawford, Marissa Rose, Renaya Dinkins, Matthew Osagai, Arturly Wright, Jonathan McNair, Brandy Calhoun and others as part of "Team McDuffie." The meeting was broadcast on Council TV (channel 13) and the Council website, and adjourned at approximately 3:33 p.m.; the chair announced the next Council meeting is Sept. 17.
