The Elko County Board of Fire Commissioners accepted a Pennington Foundation grant totaling $5,521,434.20 to equip the county’s fire district with breathing apparatus, radios, extrication tools and a turnout-washing machine.
Chief Peterson described the award and how the equipment will be distributed across the county: “This will give us, 25 SCBAs and spare bottles with masks. It also will provide us with radios, extrication equipment, and then a turnout washer,” he said, adding that equipment will go to stations in Wells, Jackpot, Osino and elsewhere.
Commissioner Delmo moved to accept the grant and to direct the fire chief to write a thank-you letter to the Pennington Foundation; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Chief Peterson and commissioners thanked the foundation for its support to Elko County programs.
The board noted that the district will not expend funds until the Pennington Foundation finalizes the grant disbursement and that purchases will follow approved quotes related to the grant.
