Planning commission approves Love’s Travel Stops RV parking permit in Jackpot

The Oakland County Planning Commission voted to approve Application CUP25-005 from Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores to operate a short‑term RV parking area in Jackpot, subject to the conditions recommended by planning staff. Chair opened the hearing and staff summarized conditions requiring improvement plans be submitted to Elko County Planning and Zoning, Building and Safety, and Jackpot Public Works for review and approval.

Sean Baker, who identified himself as a Love’s real-estate manager, described the proposal as short‑term RV parking with code‑controlled gate access and on‑site management. "It'll be managed by the managers at the store... they have to have a code and everything to get in and it's controlled," Baker said, adding the company does not intend the spaces to be used for permanent placement of skirting or long‑term structures. Commissioners asked about proximity to existing mobile‑home parks and fire protection; staff said a fire hydrant would be placed centrally on the site.

One commissioner voiced caution about market concentration in Jackpot, noting several existing mobile‑home parks and name‑checking a local casino owner. The commissioner said he "would hate to see one company come in and start monopolizing stuff," but seconded the motion after the commission discussed the proposed short‑term design. The motion to approve the conditional use permit carried following vocal assent from the board. The approval is subject to the staff‑listed conditions and required agency reviews.
