County Administrator Lee Engfer told the Human Resources Committee Feb. 18 that a 20-county wage study was used to develop proposed pay adjustments for elected officials, and that the figures shown were based on 2026 wages while 2027 data remain pending. The committee was asked to review the proposals; final approval is scheduled for the March 18, 2026, meeting.
Sheriff Osmond and Clerk of Court Julie Vollmer each addressed the committee about their positions and the proposed pay changes. The plan presented at the meeting would raise the Sheriff’s pay by 22.36% and the Clerk of Court’s pay by 15.8%. Engfer said using the same comparison counties for both employee groups and elected officials was intended to “assure consistency and fairness” in the recommendations. (Remarks attributed to Lee Engfer in the meeting record.)
The county administrator noted that additional wage data for 2027 were still being collected from peer counties and that the presented numbers are for committee review only; the committee will revisit and may act on the proposals at the March County Board meeting. The county’s formal process and timetable for finalizing elected-official wages were not specified in the meeting record.
