Caro City Council adopts revised public comment policy after split roll-call votes

The Caro City Council voted July 6 to adopt a revised public comment policy after a series of motions and two roll-call votes. An initial proposal to accept the draft policy was withdrawn; a later motion to approve the policy minus a provision limiting early public comments failed 6–1. The council then approved the policy as amended in a subsequent 6–1 roll-call vote (Motion 26-M-151).

Councilor Charlotte Kish moved to adopt the final amended policy; the motion passed with Kish, Doreen Oedy, Heidi Parker, John Riley, Emily Campbell and Mayor Karen Snider voting yes and Councilor Jill White voting no. Earlier in the sequence, Councilor Heidi Parker had successfully moved to remove the phrase “agenda items only” next to public comment (Motion 26-M-142), a change that preceded the full debate and amendment of the policy. A resident raised questions during additional public comment about the policy’s scope and timing.
