Council agrees to $50,000 fiscal study for proposed fire territory; vote 6-1

Commissioner Jason Sharp asked the council to fund up to $50,000 to hire Baker Tilly for a fiscal analysis and LIT review to evaluate a proposed fire territory spanning New Albany Township, Highlander and Georgetown Township. Sharp said all three local boards had already voted to explore the fiscal analysis and that the study is concurrent with commissioners' EMS negotiations.
The council approved using Riverboat funds (account 7303) for the study in a 6-1 vote; Council member Jim Freiberger recorded the sole opposing vote, saying the council should not use its funding in place of commissioners' resources.
