WIC coordinator supplement request tabled after council weighs Riverboat funds

Krista Comer, representing Floyd County WIC, told the Council the state has reduced its budget and that the program’s coordinator will lose two hours a week. She requested the County supplement salary and benefits for the WIC coordinator in the amount of $4,228.78 for the fiscal year running Oct. 1, 2025–Sept. 30, 2026.
Comer said “WIC is a grant funded program,” and asked the Council to consider a one-year county supplement to preserve staffing. Commissioner Denise Konkle suggested using Riverboat funds to cover the cost. After brief discussion the Council voted to table the request so members could consider funding sources; the motion to table was moved by Sam Sarkisian, seconded by Denise Konkle, and passed unanimously. The appropriation was indicated to be taken up at the October meeting if approved.
