Clerk-treasurer warns staffing shortages are delaying May/June reconciliations
Summary
Finance staff said May's appropriation and revenue reports are delayed due to bond volumes and late trustee/bank statements; the clerk-treasurer said finance is "spread way, way too thin" and recommended hiring at least three new positions to speed reconciliation.

Marla, speaking in the clerk-treasurer's office, told the finance committee that producing the appropriation and revenue reports is taking longer this year because of increased bond activity and delayed bank/trustee statements. "But because it's just a much bigger job than it used to be, it's taking longer," she said, adding staff are continuing the reconciliation as statements arrive.
The clerk-treasurer said additional hires would reduce delay and improve oversight: "We're we're spread way, way too thin," she said, and staff recommended at least three new finance-related positions (payroll, records management, accountant/reconciler). Committee members asked for more detailed line items and for staff to bring June reports forward when ready.
