La Porte board authorizes letter supporting Tourism Friendly Texas application

Haley, a La Porte staff member working on the application, told the board the Tourism Friendly Texas designation is a governor’s office program introduced in 2024 and is intended to bring additional resources to participating cities. "This is a program through the governor's office. It's relatively new. It's only been out since 2024," Haley said.
Haley explained the city is seeking the tourism-friendly designation first and may pursue other related designations (film, music) later; board member David praised the outreach and asked whether the tourism application is the first step toward other programs. Board member Chuck moved to authorize the board president to sign a letter of support to the governor’s office; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote, 7-0, and staff confirmed there is no cost associated with submitting the application.
Staff noted neighboring cities with the designation include Pasadena, League City, Alvin, Pearland, Sugar Land and Galveston and said the city will seek to coordinate any follow-up requirements if the application progresses.
