The Elko County Board of Commissioners authorized the purchase of a 40 by 60 building identified as a potential volunteer fire station east of Coal Mine Canyon, subject to a successful change of use/zoning and completion of inspections.
Staff described the building as a steel‑framed structure with concrete floors and engineered plans. "The building, the shell is up. It has a permit. It will need electrical inspection and water and utilities when they're installed. It will have to go through rezoning," said Matt (staff). Commissioners structured the authorization to allow the fire district to proceed provided the necessary approvals are obtained.
The motion to authorize the purchase subject to successful change of use passed by voice vote. Commissioners discussed including conditions in the purchase that would protect county funds if the rezoning fails before substantial expenditures are made.
