Council Member Parker said the Friends of Wangari Gardens, a nonprofit with an MOU with DDOT, secured $75,000 in budgeted grant funding to work with DC Water to provide a water connection for the community garden on DDOT property. Because DC Water is an independent financial authority, Parker said the Council must authorize DDOT to issue the grant; the declaration and underlying bill were adopted unanimously.
"We were able to secure grant funding in the amount of $75,000 so that Wangari Gardens or the Friends of Wangari Gardens can work with DC Water," Parker said. The Council's vote authorizes the administrative steps necessary to release the funds through DDOT so the garden group can proceed with implementation.
