Council shortens lease requirement for Rhode Island Avenue grant eligibility
Summary
To allow the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development to administer budgeted grants, the Council reduced the long-term lease eligibility requirement from 10 years to 3–5 years for businesses and property owners on Rhode Island Avenue.
Council Member Parker moved an emergency resolution (PR26-517) to reduce the previously required 10-year lease term to a 3–5 year lease period so the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) can administer grant funds secured in the budget for Rhode Island Avenue commercial corridors. Parker said the change reflects industry norms and helps make the grant program administrable.
The Council adopted the declaration and the underlying bill unanimously. Parker said the change is part of an ongoing effort to revitalize Rhode Island Avenue and thanked planning partners for their work on the measure.
