The Elko County Board of Commissioners approved a five‑year extension of a road maintenance agreement with National Oilwell Varco LP covering access roads in the O'Neil Basin.
Amanda (county staff) explained the county uses agreements of this type to allow private entities to maintain access roads to their operations, reducing county workload and vehicle wear. "One of the reasons why we enter into road maintenance... such as this one is to allow the private entities to maintain, for example, access road to their operation," she said.
Commissioners asked about alternatives if the agreement were not renewed; staff said the county could perform maintenance but potentially not at the same schedule or frequency the private operator would prefer. The motion to approve the five‑year extension carried by voice vote.
