Council adopts juvenile curfew temporary amendment with 30-day mayoral limit and April expiration

The Council passed the juvenile curfew second temporary amendment (Bill 26-460) after adopting an amendment that narrows the mayor's extension authority and sets an expiration date.
Council Member Pinto described the amendment on the floor, saying it "clarifies the language around the mayor's authority to extend juvenile curfews and ensures that the mayor can't do so indefinitely through successive orders, but instead cannot exceed 30 days," and added that the temporary legislation would "expire on 04/15/2026." Pinto said the expiration gives the Council time to consider youth programming in the budget and review other bills intended to support young people.
The Pinto amendment was approved by voice vote, and the Council voted to approve the bill as amended. A later request to reconsider recorded three members voting no when the final tally was recorded; Chair Mendelson announced the ayes had it on the final vote.
