Council increases mayor's training budget; mayor reports mosquito fogging and new hire

The council approved an increase to the mayor’s training budget to cover registration for a Labor Relations meeting in May.
Mayor Roy Schulz said he was already signed up for the meeting and city staff discussed whether the training budget could cover the cost. After discussion CM Pete Martin moved to increase the mayor's training budget by the amount needed to pay for registration; CM Mike Hale seconded and the motion passed on roll call with CM Shelly Ausmus voting no. As recorded, Ausmus said she wanted the mayor to "pick and choose what he would like to attend."
In his report, Mayor Schulz also said the city scheduled Kevin Turnbough to fog for mosquitoes three times a week after dark for at least a few weeks. He reported the new employee, John Lahey, will take the test to get his mosquito license and described attending a social media conference.
The council said it will look at broader training needs for mayor, council and staff in future agendas.
