Select Board hears highway equipment update; culvert work estimated at about $190,000

Per Tripp, the Highway Department lead, told the Select Board the department will paint handicapped parking areas and purchase anchorable rubber curbing for public buildings; a sweeper remains in operation and a surplus truck has been posted for sale on Marketplace and the town website. Chair Brian Mills asked whether the gas pumps could be moved to reduce parking on the grass; Per Tripp said, “The other end of the building is tight, and I can't keep everything inside.”
Contractor Steve Swasey presented cost estimates for culvert replacement work, indicating approximately 20 culverts on East B Hill and seven on North Main Street with an estimated cost for East B of about $190,000; Chair Mills said costs could decline depending on project volume and noted funding will come from a Road Bond approved earlier the same evening. The board carried a motion to accept Swasey’s estimates and proceed with planning.
The board also accepted Swasey's recommendation to repair Wyman Hill Brook by replacing failing steel support beams. The motion to accept the bridge-repair plan carried. The Highway Department and contractor were directed to return with final scopes and timelines for public notice and procurement.
