Residents press commissioners on urban-county process, HUD funds, surveillance and JFS pay

During the meeting's public-comment period, several residents urged greater transparency and questioned county messaging and priorities. Karen Johnson and others expressed concern about redefinition of planning terms such as "urban" and about whether promised meetings with municipal and township officials actually occurred; she also criticized perceived inconsistencies in HUD-fund estimates. Amanda Joan Quimper, an independent journalist, asked the board to slow economic-development processes and make incentive agreements and other records available to the public, citing a recent state law (HB 96) she said had limited access to economic-development records.

Sandra Jensen, who works in adult protective services intake, described salary levels for front-line staff and drew attention to numbers of supervisors and the budgetary effect of recent raises; she asked whether a staffing audit had been performed. Other public commenters raised concerns about surveillance technology, hyperscale data-center projects in Brownhelm Township and the broader need for local transparency on incentive agreements and public-health implications. Commissioners thanked speakers and closed the meeting shortly afterward.
