Elko County extends transit contract to serve Amtrak platform‑to‑platform passengers

Kayla Hopkins of Elko County Transit asked the commission to approve an amendment to the county's contract to provide platform‑to‑platform transport for Amtrak passengers and to extend the agreement under the option included in last year’s contract.
"Last year it was approved for $206,000; this year it'll be $212,180 so that represents a 3% increase for inflation on the operation costs," Hopkins said. She said the service provides platform transfers (and, when needed, other local transport) and helps provide local match for FTA grants.
Commissioners asked about reliability and schedule impacts; Hopkins acknowledged trains can run late and said the transit service will continue to drop passengers at specified times and cannot always wait for significantly delayed trains. The commission voted to accept the amendment and continue the service.
