Commission approves jail services contracts for food and inmate communications

The commission approved two contracts for the Elko County Jail: a food‑service agreement with Trinity Food Services and a communications/communications‑tablet agreement with NCIC Correctional Services.
The under‑sheriff (Mark) told the commission Trinity was the most cost‑effective respondent to an earlier RFP and has provided food service in the jail for several years. "This came back as the most cost effective… they've been in the jail doing food service for several years, and they do a great job," Mark said.
On inmate communications, Mark described a tablet system that will be issued to individual inmates with unique PINs to reduce device destruction and that includes a law library and attorney‑client access. He said the vendor's software can flag keywords and provide the district attorney office access for investigations. Commissioners asked whether audio is retained for monitoring; Mark said the system has monitoring and keyword alerts and that the district attorney can be granted access.
Both motions were moved, seconded and carried; the board recorded aye votes and advanced both contracts to implementation steps handled by the sheriff's office and procurement staff.
