Resident urges Elko County to publish a public plan for Lamoille Grove tree removal and replanting

"If there is copious amounts of money and millions to be donated... I feel like it's really important that the county just schedule the tree removal for completion ASAP as the falling trees are a safety concern," Liz Todd said during the public‑comment period.
Amanda, a county staff member, told the board there is not an approved plan and that prior, limited tree removal work has been done; she reported contractor quotes ranging about $35,000 to $100,000 for removal. Commissioners discussed the need for a landscape architect or qualified local designers to produce a thoughtful plan that protects irrigation and community use of the grove.
Commissioner Gerber suggested placing the topic on the Oct. 15 agenda to gather public input and invite local garden clubs and experts to weigh in. The board agreed to schedule the item and directed staff to circulate contact information for interested residents.
Next steps: the commission said staff will compile quotes and invite local experts before the October meeting; the item will return to the agenda for further discussion and possible direction.
