During public comment Karl Souza told commissioners that a group of more than 300 side-by-side off-road vehicles used Dead Horse Cave Road for a weekend birthday gathering and caused severe damage to the newly graded road and adjacent parking lot. Souza said both police and life-flight were called during the incident and that he will ask 5J Excavation to perform needed repairs; an investigation is ongoing.
Commissioners listened but did not authorize immediate county repair work during this session; Souza's comment was recorded and the county clerk was directed to note correspondence and follow-up instructions. The Board may address repairs and any cost allocation in a subsequent meeting after the investigation and contractor estimates are available.
