Consultant outlines countywide radio‑site needs assessment; strategic plan due soon

Consultants conducting the land‑mobile radio (LMR) study told the operations board they have inventoried towers, equipment, HVAC, cameras, alarm monitoring, fencing and access roads and reviewed leases and agency interviews.
"We've gone out to every tower site and inventoried every tower site, whether it's for the equipment, HVAC, cameras, alarm monitoring, fencing, security, etcetera," Michael McGrady said. He said the needs assessment will specify what remediation each site needs and provide a strategic plan and cost estimates; the team expects to complete the assessment and strategic plan by the end of June and present findings in July.
McGrady said the assessment includes microwave studies to create a northern microwave ring to provide alternate routing in case a link goes down, and preventive‑maintenance recommendations for grounding, fencing, and environmental controls. The board discussed using the study to pursue grant funding or legislative funds to standardize site security and monitoring.
County staff asked the consultant to return with site‑by‑site cost estimates and a July presentation to summarize recommended capital work and operational changes.
