The Geneva County Commission authorized a $70,296.80 contract with GenCon Associates, Inc. to perform additional work on the Geneva County Farm Center Arena, including approximately 13,500 square feet of bermuda sod, seeding of roughly 37,000 square feet, 750 linear feet of metal edging, and import and placement of approximately 730 cubic yards of sand/clay arena base to produce an 80% sand/20% clay layer roughly 10 inches thick.
County Attorney Phil Eldridge described the work as outside the original contract because funds were limited when the original contract was awarded. Eldridge said a change order covers work discovered during construction and proposed a 30-day completion schedule; GenCon agreed to a single final payment upon completion and Engineer Justin Barfield will inspect the work and produce any punch list. The contract documents attached by the contractor specify insurance minimums and reference compliance with the Alabama Public Works Law for contracts under $100,000.
The commission voted 4-0 to approve the contract and authorized Chairman Seay to sign. Contract terms recorded in the meeting paperwork include a $50-per-day liquidated damages clause for missed completion beyond the 30-day contract time and specified insurance and bonding requirements.
