Sheriff Jim Heflin told the council he plans to return in March to seek changes to road deputy scheduling and pay. Heflin noted road deputies are currently based on 171 hours for a four‑week period and said he wants to move to an 80‑hour two‑week period. He also asked the council to consider compensation for deputies’ court appearances and to change holiday pay from the current $100 per holiday to double time.
The minutes record the three topics as items for future discussion; no motions or votes were taken on the personnel or pay items at the Feb. 5 meeting. Heflin is scheduled to come back in March to provide more detail and to request any formal actions needed to implement changes.
