Commissioners review facilities needs and $600,000 Topper 1 storage proposal

"We don't have any secure storage ... you have a jail key that fits basically every door," he said, arguing that a modern storage facility would better protect records. The project was costed at roughly $600,000 in the capital outlay list. Commissioners expressed concerns about septic, plumbing and electricity at the Topper 1 site and discussed alternatives such as retrofitting an existing barn-type building or expanding the Emergency Management building; several commissioners said they preferred to keep the $600,000 placeholder in the budget while staff refine the plan and review site details.
The court directed Jason and budget staff to bring a buildings inventory and a facilities needs assessment to Round 2 so that commissioners can evaluate capital projects in the context of a countywide capital improvement plan.
