The Avon Park City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-46 on July 27 to declare a 2013 Dodge Durango surplus and authorize its sale by public auction.
The fire chief explained the SUV had recurring electrical and mechanical problems that caused it to shut off while in use and that local repair efforts had not fixed the issues. "It'll go to auction," the chief said, adding the city would likely receive "a couple thousand dollars" for the vehicle.
Council members asked about how long the vehicle had been in service and how long it's been out of regular use; the chief said the vehicle was used through 2022 and had been sitting in city storage since. The resolution passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
