Council OKs Ford Ranger purchase for utility locator from Duval Ford

Avon Park's council voted unanimously July 27 to authorize the purchase of a Ford Ranger under the Florida Sheriff's Association contract FSA25-VEL33.0 from Duval Ford to equip a newly budgeted utility locator position.
Staff explained the vehicle is intended for daily use by the utility locator and that the older truck currently used by that position would be reassigned to another staff member. "This would be primarily used for that," a city staff member said, explaining the new truck is budgeted and will be more fuel efficient.
Council members asked about upfits and whether the truck would receive strobes or other additions; staff said no major upfit is planned though they "may add strobes." The resolution passed by roll call with all members voting yes.
