Horry County’s board approved a variance for a storage building at 927 Star Drive that reduces the left-side setback and the rear setback to allow a 30-by-50-foot structure. Applicants Jason and Cheryl Neely (speakers 21 and 2) said they had spoken with adjacent neighbors and that neither had objections; they described the need to house a 30-foot boat indoors.
"We have spoken to our neighbors on the rear and on the left side. Neither one has an issue," Jason Neely said, explaining the proposed size is necessary for maintenance and storage. Board members asked questions about reducing the size; the applicants said shrinking the unit would prevent the boat from fitting. After no public opposition, the board voted to approve the requested variances and staff will apply standard conditions.
