City will hold off on school speed-zone cameras until state rules are finalized

"These school speed zone cameras will not be on, until August 20 when they actually promulgate rules that tell us exactly what we need to do," the city manager said, adding that the legislature changed the law and the city must decide whether it wants to be the applicant for the cameras rather than the school system. Staff noted the city's permit had expired and that they would return to the commission with a recommendation once the state clarifies requirements.
Commissioners and staff said they were monitoring the situation and will bring a formal recommendation when more details are available; no action or votes were taken at the July 28 meeting on the camera program.
