Horry County planning staff opened a 30-day public comment period on a draft industrial-corridor policy and map after reporting public outreach results that will inform the draft.
Staff said the outreach included two open houses and a public survey with approximately 97 responses. "We've had approximately 97 survey responses," staff reported. Survey respondents typically opposed locating industrial uses near residential properties, historic downtowns and conservation lands and expressed preference for locating light and heavy industrial uses in inland and rural communities with adequate utility and road infrastructure. Staff also noted concerns raised about potential impacts on wetlands, air and water quality.
Staff asked the commission to open the comment period; a motion to do so carried. Staff said the public comment period would close on July 2, after which the commission could vote to forward the draft to county council.
