Clark County authorizes participation in remnant-opioid settlement tied to $97.6M nationwide pool

The Clark County Board of Commissioners authorized participation in a proposed Remnant Defendants settlement involving six distributors and dispensers that, if effectuated, would pay a combined $97,625,000 for abatement of the opioid epidemic. The board authorized the County Administrator and Chief Legal Counsel to execute settlement documents.
Chief Legal Counsel Beau Thompson told commissioners the county has been working on opioid litigation for several years and that this is "one of the last opioid settlements the commission will see." He added the county’s share will be apportioned based on population and cautioned the amount for Clark County will be modest because the national pool is distributed to many jurisdictions.
The resolution names the six defendants and explains that payment from the Remnant Defendants Settlement is distributed directly to eligible entities rather than to states. Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize participation and to allow county staff to sign settlement documents on the county’s behalf.
