Zachary Hamilton of 2250 Shady Oaks Road told the council he provided documents outlining his concerns about what he described as the "intended industrialization of Shady Oaks Road" as part of the Reimagine Marshalltown project.
"The intended industrialization of Shady Oaks Road as part of the reimagine Marshalltown project has the very real potential to create a significant and detrimental impact on the life of individuals currently residing on this county highway," Hamilton said, and asked whether the city has measures to protect current rural residents' lifestyles and property values.
The mayor responded that public comment is not the time for debate but noted the plan itself is expected to come forward for council approval and suggested Hamilton bring the matter to the council agenda; the Clerk said the plan is likely scheduled for the first meeting in August and that would be the germane time to discuss protections and specifics.
No formal direction or vote was taken during public comment; council and staff suggested next steps include adding the item to the agenda when the Reimagine Marshalltown plan is presented so the issue can be discussed in a proper agenda setting.
