Marshalltown Chamber: RAGBRAI drew about 40,400 out-of-market visitors, organizers say

John Hall, a co-chair of the RAGBRAI Marshalltown initiative and representative of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, thanked the mayor, council and residents for support during last week’s RAGBRAI stop and reported preliminary visitor numbers.
"Out of market visitors was just north of 40,000," Hall said, adding later, "40,400 is exactly what I've got recorded." Hall said organizers are still compiling demographic and origin data and plan to publish a fuller report.
Hall noted RAGBRAI’s broader economic footprint statewide, saying prior impact studies estimate an annual impact of about $25,000,000 across Iowa. He credited wide community participation and volunteered time for Marshalltown’s results and said follow-up reporting will include further cross-tabs on visitor origins and spending patterns.
The mayor and council acknowledged the report with thanks; no council action was taken during public comment. Chamber leaders and residents also said several local vendors reported record sales during the event.
