Costa students and ASB describe ‘Costa Leopards Rise’ PBIS rollout

Principal Pacheco told the board the school built its PBIS program from the ground up since opening a few years ago and adopted the culture and value system “Costa Leopards Rise” to create a shared vocabulary for students, staff and parents. She said the program emphasizes respect, innovation, safety and empathy and has moved from staff‑led lessons to student leadership through ASB involvement.
“As ASB has really taken on a huge role starting this year, and I’m very proud of the work they’ve done,” Principal Pacheco said, describing the RISE tickets, a weekly drawing system, and a leopard store where students redeem rewards. She explained the program’s progression: forming a PBIS committee, rolling out classroom lesson plans, recognizing monthly student winners, and expanding responsibilities for ASB to deliver lessons in classrooms and assemblies.
Eighth‑grader Abi, an ASB member, described producing and performing skits for RISE assemblies to model character traits and life skills for younger students. “As ASB members, we put in a lot of work and dedication to create entertaining scripts and support our school,” Abi said, adding that the experience helps ASB members build leadership and serve as role models.
Board members praised the work and asked a few brief questions after the presentation. The board did not take any formal action on the presentation; it was provided as an informational program update.
