The board approved a contract with Soliant Health LLC to provide an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter for the 2025–26 school year at a total cost of $62,640. Staff said the contract replaces a previously approved arrangement that did not work out and ensures the district has needed ASL coverage.
Trustee David Pambo asked whether the expense is charged to special-education funds; staff responded that it is a special-education expense paid from the general fund. Trustee Pambo moved to approve the contract and Trustee Samik Modi seconded; the motion carried with five ayes and no nos.
"This replaces the person we were unable to land and gives us this sign language that we need," the superintendent said when introducing the item. The board recorded no opposed votes and no abstentions.
