On electric buses, budget staff said the district receives a $25-per-bus, per-day lease-offset from the transportation provider. "It's $25 a day per bus per day, and it's 180 school days that they bus," Staff member (Speaker 1) said, which produces an estimated $45,000 annually for 10 buses. Mister Pacheco (Speaker 10) confirmed that the buses logged limited service this year but will be in full service next year, which is when the projected offset would be realized.
Councilors who favored immediately funding the $17.1 million transportation request said relying on speculative savings risks service cuts elsewhere. Opponents urged the administration to provide firmer route-based estimates before finalizing long-term appropriations.
