Committee reopens review of special-event fees, staff to return with options

Several members noted the city relies on Main Street events and that higher fees can cut into nonprofit fundraising. One member observed that larger nonresident events often use county fairgrounds, while downtown events impose unique impacts on city streets. A staff member reminded the committee that, by law and practice, fees must reasonably relate to anticipated city costs for review and enforcement.
