Salt Lake County trims signal project from 40 to 27 signals in TIP modification; TAC approves

At the Feb. 25 TAC meeting, staff presented a requested modification to the 2026–2031 Transportation Improvement Program that would reduce a Salt Lake County signal project from 40 signals to 27. Ben Wuthrich reported that eight signals of the original 40 have already been connected to the central ATMS and that several remaining signals were deemed excessively expensive to connect. The project was originally programmed in 2019 and the county did not request any change to the funding amount.
Chris Norlem moved the modification and Tamaran Woodland seconded; the committee recorded the motion as APPROVED. The modification changes the project scope but, per staff statements in the meeting, does not alter the funding allocation for the project in the current TIP programming.
Clarifying details provided by staff: the original program year for the project is 2019; eight signals are connected to the ATMS; scope change reduces the number of signals to be connected to the central system; funding amount remains as programmed.
